What makes SENNELIER pastels different from other brands?

SENNELIER pastels are distinguished by their rich, vibrant colors and high concentration of pure pigments, which set them apart from many other brands. Their extra-soft consistency allows for seamless blending and layering, allowing for expressiveness in artwork that can be difficult to achieve with harder pastels. The brand has over a century of expertise in pastel manufacturing, ensuring that each stick delivers exceptional quality that artists can trust during their creative process.

Are SENNELIER pastels suitable for beginners?

Yes, SENNELIER pastels are suitable for beginners as well as professionals. Their smooth application and high pigmentation make them user-friendly, allowing newcomers to quickly see results. The soft texture allows for easy blending and layering, essential techniques for creating depth in artwork. As beginners explore different techniques with these pastels, they will cultivate their skills and develop a better understanding of color dynamics and design.

Can the pastels be used on different surfaces?

Absolutely! SENNELIER Extra-Soft pastels can be used on a variety of surfaces, including textured paper, canvas, wood, and even pastel boards. This versatility allows artists to experiment with different textures and mediums to achieve unique effects in their artwork. The choice of surface will also influence the final result, enabling artists to explore rich textures or smooth finishes based on their creative vision.

What techniques can I use with SENNELIER pastels?

SENNELIER pastels can be used with various techniques, such as layering, blending, and underpainting. Artists often use dry techniques for fine detail work and add water to create a painterly effect. Finger blending and using tools like tortillons can further enhance gradients and textures. The vibrant color palette allows for a plethora of artistic explorations, from soft landscapes to bold abstract pieces.

Are these pastels lightfast?

Yes, SENNELIER Extra-Soft pastels are known for their lightfastness, meaning they are resistant to fading when exposed to light over time. This feature is critical for artists who want their work to remain vibrant and true to color for years to come. Using high-quality pastels also allows artists to maintain the integrity of their work, especially for pieces intended for exhibitions or long-term display.

How do I store and care for my SENNELIER pastels?

Storing your SENNELIER pastels properly is essential for maintaining their quality. Keep them in the original box or a dedicated pastel storage case to avoid breakage and exposure to moisture. Ensure the case is placed in a cool, dry environment. Avoid pressing the pastels together to prevent smudging of colors. Regularly check for damage, and handle them gently to keep your vibrant palette in excellent condition.

What type of paper works best for use with these pastels?

Textured papers designed for pastel or art papers with a tooth are ideal for use with SENNELIER pastels. These surfaces allow the pastel particles to grip effectively, facilitating layering and blending techniques. Examples include pastel papers, watercolor papers with texture, or mixed media papers that can withstand additional mediums and techniques. Choosing the right paper can significantly enhance your artistic results and enjoyment.

SENNELIER Pastels 10-132271-00 Editorial Review

The SENNELIER Extra-Soft Pastel Half Stick Set is a great investment for any artist who loves pastel drawings. The set comes with 60 count soft pastels. Each pastel measures Half-Stick: 1/2" x1 3/8". The pastels have a velvety quality and are perfect for blending. The set comes in a well-packaged black box. Reviews: Customers have expressed their admiration for this product, claiming it to be the best they ever used. They found the extra soft pastels to be creamy and easy to blend together. The pastels adhere fantastically to the paper, and the colors are brilliant. The packaging is top of the line and professional. Some customers mentioned receiving a set with the pastels not in order, but they confirmed that there were no marks or edges that indicated they were used. The set comes with all colors needed for pastel drawing. One customer had an unpleasant experience, receiving a product that was obviously opened, with pastel dust all over, and the packaging was ripped and torn. The set was probably used or previously returned, and they were unsure if it was the original Sennelier pastels. Overall the SENNELIER Extra-Soft Pastel Half Stick Set seems to be a solid investment for artists who love pastel drawing.
