Classics Editorial Review
Anita Brookner's "Look at Me" is a beautifully written novel that captures the loneliness of its protagonist, Fanny, who is quiet and shy. The author expertly delves into Fanny's innermost thoughts and emotions, making the novel a page-turner. However, some readers felt that Fanny's thoughts and emotional evolution were inConsistent with her overall personality at times. The book does not have a significant plot, but it explores Fanny's relationships with others deeply. The descriptions of London setting were excellent, and each interaction in the story was fraught with tension and subtext. While the book is a bit wordy at times, it is still an outstanding, original, and masterful novel.
